About

The Sun Temple of Konark, located in the Indian state of Odisha.  Emperor Narasimhadeva of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty built this beautiful temple. Shaped like a colossal chariot of the God Sun, the temple is famous for its intricately carved stone wheels, pillars, and walls. Designed to represent the chariot of Surya, the Hindu Sun God, the temple once housed a massive magnet that allegedly made the idol of Surya levitate. Built entirely in black granite, the Konark Sun Temple showcases classic Kalinga architecture and stands as a symbol of India’s rich cultural and scientific heritage. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of India.
